Russian Fresh: Made in the 90s
The USSR collapse in 1991 ushered in a decade of extraordinary change and turbulence. The Russian 90s witnessed the fall of Russian communism, the rise of Russian oligarchs, Russian gangsters, mafia, an attempted military coup, a financial crisis, and a struggle to survive. Meanwhile, it was the time of the rise of new culture; the culture of liberty, freedom, opportunities, fun and excitement – it was the culture of youths. The 90s made the impossible possible. The school participants will deal with memories of Russia’s experiences and practices of the 90s, the retroactive politicization of the “wild decade”.
The 90s was a hard labour in the modern history of Russia when the economic stagnation and deterioration occurred, where people suffered the lack of money, food, basics, high technology embodied in computers, mobile phones and the high-speed Internet. Ironically, despite all that, many Russians who grew up in the post-perestroika would assert that they had lived in the “good times”. Participants of “Made in the 90s” will travel in time to the 90s “bad and good times” to experience the Russian of 90s: playing Tetris, SEGA, Gummi Twist, watching the 90s comedies and action films and talking to Russians who grew up and survived the 90s.
Winter School “Russian Fresh: Made in the 90s” combines intensive Russian language courses, games and quest courses, soviet cartoons and animations, scientific lectures, cultural events, workshops and excursion programs within the heart of exquisite Russian identity in Ekaterinburg and Kazan.
