Winter School 2022
Winter School 2022 offers on-camp school which will combine intensive Russian language courses with professional teachers, lectures on “Soviet Heritage” and Russian studies, cultural events, workshops and meetings with experts and special guests, as well as sightseeing tours in Ekaterinburg presented in Soviet avant-garde architecture and visits to the Urals towns or villages and Russian winter activities such as swimming in the hot springs of “Baden-Baden”.

Application for the scholarship consists of 2 stages:

1. Be at least 18 by the start of the program.
2. Have graduated from high school or secondary school or equivalent.
3. Present a clear, informative and strong Motivation letter describing the facts about applicant‘s academic background, knowledge and skills, and proof of applicant ‘s high interest to participate in the School.
4. Have fluency in English language in order to imply the utmost participation in seminars, lectures, tours, workshops and meetings on Russian Studies.
5. Be responsible and enthusiastic.
The discussion around the USSR, ist internal and foreign politics, contribution to the world history, is still ongoing in Russia in the whole world. Although many objects from soviet heritage became a thing of the past, there still some that reming us about the history that finished 30 years ago: soviet generation from parents to grandparents, soviet architecture in the street, soviet unwritten social rules and norms, as well as some museums and cafes, that try to retrieve to the present piece of Soviet daily heritage.
The course of Russian as a foreign language will be held for students of different language levels (A0-C1) in the groups of 5-10 people:
After the two-week winter course, which will run from 31 January to 13 February, students will acquire remarkable linguistic and Russian as a foreign language skills, as well as a rich and practical knowledge of the political status and the role of women in Russia
In Ekaterinburg, students will live in a hostel sharing the room with other 1-3 school participants (rooms for girls and boys are separated). The hostel is located in the downtown, which is 5 minites walk to the University, where all classes will take place.
Breakfast in Ekaterinburg is included daily and at the choice of each participant (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian): porridge, scrambled eggs, toasts with jam, syrniki (Russian breakfast made from cottage cheese), bliny (Russian pancakes), etc. For lunch and dinner, students can choose any restaurant or café in the city, a university canteen, a hostel café, or prepare meals by themselves in the hostel kitchen.
Upon arrival at the airport or railway station of Ekaterinburg, each participant will be met and accompanied to the hostel by the School volunteers at any day and time.
In addition, our friendly volunteers and the manager will accompany and help School participants in the city, if needed.
